John Curry GAA grounds was the venue for the St Patrick’s Day clash of Rathgormack and old rivals the Nire in the John Curry Memorial U13 tournament. The teams lined out in the grey misty day ready for battle. Both teams were keen to win and the fighting spirit showed from the first whistle, with the ball back and forth over the midfield area for the first three minutes until the Nire opened the scoring with a goal. A fired up Rathgormack team responded with a point in the following minute. Although both teams fought hard, scoring was slow due to strong defence on both sides and a considerable breeze. At the ten minute mark, the Nire took another goal with Rathgormack following up with a further point. The half time whistle saw a score line of The Nire 2-2 to Rathgormack’s 5 points. Following rousing half time team talks, both teams came back out on the pitch ready to finish the game. The match started again at a great pace and Rathgormack soon dominated the scoring, working together to create fantastic scoring chances which they confidently converted. The Nire answered back repeatedly but ultimately Rathgormack’s decisive kicking finished the game with a 4-10 to 2-6 scoreline. Both teams provided a great display of football skills for the parents and spectators that turned out for the game
