Well done to our young U16 team who narrowly lost out to St Oliver’s in the Division 2 Cup Final in Fraher Field, Dungarvan on Wednesday 3rd Dec. Played in difficult weather conditions we got a great start with early points from Peter Murray, Ronan Kirwan & Jack Halpin before St Oliver’s worked a goal opportunity about 10 minutes in to give them the lead that they held till half time. The 2nd half was nip & tuck all the way & when St Oliver’s were awarded & converted a penalty with about 10 minutes to go they took a commanding 5 point lead. Our boys never gave up & ran themselves into the ground & we were back to within 3 points entering injury time. With time almost up we worked a last gasp goal opportunity but unfortunately the ball came back off the crossbar & St Oliver’s worked the ball up the pitch for the insurance point. The final whistle was blown shortly after that & we lost out 2-10 to 0-12.
This was our best performance of the year & with a little bit of luck on the night we could have took home the cup. Congratulations to St Oliver’s on their performance & victory, they are fine team with great years ahead for them.
We look forward to the 2026 season with these boys & with only 2 of the starting team overage next year we will hopefully continue to improve & make an impression on the U16 Div. 1 competition next year.
